ETIQUETTE AND SAFETY RULES WHILE STAYING AT RISING SUN RANCH HUNTING PRESERVE

  1. ALL HUNTERS MUST POSSES A VALID CALIFORNIA HUNTING LICENSE WITH THE APPROPRIATE GAME TAGS.  We can sell you a California daily hunting license but you must have proof of having completed an approved hunter safety course.

  2. Use common sense! Don't get carried away by the excitement. Think before you shoot. Never load your gun until you are at your blind. Unload it when you leave. Keep safety on at all times prior to covey/flock rise.

  3. NEVER EVER shoot at a bird below a 45 degree angle to the horizon. A good rule of thumb is for the bird to be silhouetted by the sky when you shoot.

  4. Always keep your gun pointing skyward, or broken, when not shooting.

  5. If you are hunting with someone taller or shorter than you, be particularly careful of the taller person when shooting. i.e. Don't shoot from a sitting position next to a standing shooter.

  6. Be a good sport if the birds don't show up at your end of the field-and a better one if they do.

  7. A dog is required while hunting for upland birds.  You may supply your own dog or we can supply one for you, for an additional fee.  Our guide must accompany you when you shoot with our dogs.

  8. Keep your dog under control at all times.

  9. We encourage you to bring your kids to the hunt, but ask you to keep them under control too.

  10. Be still in the field. The birds do have a brain and won't fly over you if you move around.

  11. Never shoot across the other hunter's "dividing" line, i.e. a line drawn equidistant between the two of you and perpendicular to an imaginary line joining the two of you together.

  12. Always make certain that you know where everyone is before firing. Be on the lookout for other hunters or observers.

  13. Never shoot from moving vehicles, including golf carts.

  14. Wear protective shooting glasses at all times before hunt begins, and immediately after hunt ends.

  15. Keep gun unloaded at all times before hunt begins, and immediately after hunt ends.

  16. Wear blaze orange hat and/or vest (or coat) at all times during hunt.  If you do not have your own, we can provide a blaze orange cap at a minimal cost.

  17. Try to know the location of all dogs prior to firing. Be on the lookout for "breaking" or "jumping" type dogs.

  18. All hunters must have a valid California Hunting License or a daily permit which can be purchased at the Rising Sun Ranch Hunting Preserve.

  19. No alcoholic beverages before or during hunt. Absolutely no recreational drugs at anytime.

  20. Game must be registered before leaving the preserve.

  21. No smoking in lodge or any building, or outside, except for designated smoking area. Forest fires aren't very pretty.

  22. No polluting the environment or lodge. Please clean up your garbage and messes.

  23. No unseemly behavior, obscene language, loud music, inebriation, or bad attitudes. Remember the Golden Rule and treat others as you would want others to treat you.

  24. We reserve the right to refuse hunting to anyone who appears to present a safety hazard. Anyone who does not follow the rules risks being either removed from the field or asked to resign from the club-OR BOTH.

  25. Hunters may use lead shot on upland birds.  Minimum recommended shot size is #6 high base for pheasant or chukar.

  26. A non-refundable deposit is required when making reservations. If you are unable to arrive on the date of your reservation, please call us to reschedule.

  27. Prices subject to change without notice.

  28. We reserve the right to refuse service to anyone.
